Michael Ewing Associate Curator Frist Art Museum

Ewing’s curatorial approach couples psychological theories, literary devices, and visual language to shape the exhibition’s cognitive framework through a southern hermeneutical lens.

Houston-born artist and curator Michael Ewing, a Fisk University graduate, gained international experience in Paris, curating for BackSlash gallery. This ignited his passion for global cultural intersections, leading to projects in South Africa and Matanzas, Cuba. His focus on Pan-Africanism, Cultural Capital, and place-making resonates in his work, weaving together memory, imagination, and identity.

Rooted in Southern Black artistic consciousness, Ewing's civic practice explores folklore, mythology, and speculative futures. Now back in Nashville, he continues to shape dialogues celebrating cultural diversity.
