Tyree Boyd-Pates is a Los Angeles-based historian, museum curator, peer-reviewed author, cultural strategist, and founder and chief curator of NOMMO Cultural Strategies. His work focuses on Black art, culture, history, civic media, and Afrofuturist imagination. With over a decade of experience developing acclaimed museum exhibitions, public programs, and cultural campaigns, Boyd-Pates has partnered with leading cultural institutions and brands to promote more expansive, nuanced, and equity-focused narratives about the African/Black diaspora. His approach is rooted in care, community engagement, and the belief that Black art and history are not only preserved but also experienced, energized, and projected into the future.

NOMMO Cultural Strategies

Founded by Boyd-Pates, NOMMO Cultural Strategies is a cultural consultancy dedicated to transforming the way institutions, brands, and communities engage with Black art, history, and culture.

Through curatorial practice, artistic strategy, and community partnerships, NOMMO helps organizations create experiences that are authentic, resonant, and impactful. NOMMO has collaborated with museums, foundations, and global companies, including Nike, eBay, and BeyGOOD, to develop campaigns, exhibitions, and initiatives that link Black history, storytelling, and collective imagination. NOMMO believes that cultural work is civic work, and that curating stories with integrity builds trust, fosters a sense of belonging, and creates long-term impact, primarily through innovative African-centered design frameworks, such as Afrospatialism: a multidisciplinary approach to history and curation that emphasizes Black presence in space and time.
